How to Choose the Right Pallet for Your Product
Choosing the right pallet reduces damage, optimizes transportation and lowers costs. These are the factors to evaluate before you buy.
Choosing the right pallet reduces damage, optimizes transportation and lowers costs. These are the factors to evaluate before you buy.
The first factor is how much weight the pallet will carry and how. You need to distinguish between:
Undersizing the pallet causes fractures and product damage; oversizing adds unnecessary cost. Balance is key.
The most common sizes in Mexico and North America are 48" x 40" and 48" x 45", but the ideal pallet is the one that fits your product and your container or truck to make the most of the available space. We also manufacture custom sizes when a standard size doesn't fit.

Wood is the most common choice for its strength, cost and repairability. For high-volume closed loops, returnable packaging (plastic pallets, totes) can lower the logistics cost per cycle. Evaluate how many trips the pallet will make before deciding.
If the pallet will leave the country, it must comply with NOM-144 and ISPM 15, meaning it must be heat-treated (HT) and carry the IPPC stamp. Without them, the shipment can be held at customs.
Depending on your budget and requirements, choose between new pallets (maximum durability), recycled pallets (lower cost) or hybrid pallets (a middle ground). We break it down in this comparison.
Sectors such as food, beverage and pharmaceutical require clean, dry, legally sourced, traceable lumber. Confirm that your supplier meets these standards.
Summary: define load → size → entries → material → export? → type (new/recycled) → hygiene. With that information you will have the exact specification for your ideal pallet.
